The big news is both the closing down of Greenboathouse Books and the rebirth of Greenboathouse Press, marking the major shift from ditigal to hand-set metal & letterpress production. It's been a long time in the making, and the past year has been mainly devoted to setting up shop to begin printing & publishing in the new year. Book Design (2008)
April found me at the old Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver for a few days to judge this year's Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design. On other fronts, Bringhurst has been kind enough to include my work in his recent overview of Canadian books, The Surface of Meaning: Books and Book Design in Canada.
The new Diploma in Writing & Publishing at Okanagan College is now wrapping up it's first semester of 6 new courses on topics from copyediting & manuscript prep., to typography & publication design. After the winter break we'll be busy with page design & layout, and the restoration of an antique Pearl press, recently donated to the college by Canadiana poet, Gary Geddes.
