Recent Greenboathouse News

With the academic year wrapped up, production has begun on this year's Greenboathouse Press releases. There are three books lined up, two of which have already been set into type and book announcements are now in process. First up, though, is a trip out east, first to Philadelphia for the Hybrid Book conference, and then on to NY (see below). Once home, I'll be busy printing for the rest of the summer... Typophiles Luncheon at the National Arts Club, NYC

I've been invited by the Typophiles to speak at their summer luncheon at the National Arts Club in NYC. The topic will be contemporary fine press publishing in Western Canada, and in addition to focusing on Jan & Crispin Elsted of the Barbarian Press, Jim Rimmer of the Pine Tree Press, and Rollin Milroy of Heavenly Monkey, I'll also introduce, breifly, my own early efforts and the supportive community of printer/publishers here in BC.

 

Book Design (2008)

AlcuinLast April found me at the old Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver for a few days to judge the 2007 Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design. On other fronts, Bringhurst has been kind enough to include my work in his recent overview of Canadian books, The Surface of Meaning: Books and Book Design in Canada.

Pearl No.3The new Diploma in Writing & Publishing at Okanagan College is now wrapped up for the year, but we were busy with the restoration of an antique Pearl press, donated to the college by Canadian poet, Gary Geddes.
